THE PROCEDURE

As its name indicates, this procedure involves cutting the stomach in the shape of a sleeve, reducing its size to 70-80%, without manipulating other organs. Part of the stomach that is removed contains a hormone called “ghrelin”, which is the hormone responsible for sending the message to your brain that “you’re hungry“, so this procedure immediately decreases the production of this hormone and thus the patient’s hunger and food cravings.

The sleeve gastrectomy is performed laparoscopically. This is a minimally invasive surgery; so patients walk out of the hospital the day after the surgery with an incredibly fast recovery.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS

Gastric sleeve post-op diet is mandatory for two main reasons: to minimize the chances of complications and to give entry to the new lifestyle and eating habits that the patient should embrace. This does not mean that the patient won’t be able to eat “normal” food, eventually they will be able to do so, but in small healthy portions.

 

RESULTS

This procedure has been so successful to treat obesity  among our patients and consequently all their related illness, such as diabetes and hypertension, to name a few; since it is the most promising new weight loss procedure and it’s 100% safe and effective.

With the information gathered from our patients follow-ups,  we have found that they have obtained greater weight loss with this procedure than with gastric lap band and stomach stapling and only slightly less than with gastric bypass, but above all, with much fewer complications than the latter.
