THE PROCEDURE
Before breast augmentation surgery many decisions have to be made, including those related to the type and size of the implant, along with where they will be placed and the where the incision will be made.
During the surgery, the surgeon will place the implant in accordance with the decisions taken in the planning stages. This process usually takes between one and two hours.
RECOMMENDATIONS
After the surgery vigorous activities, especially arm movement, may be restricted for two to three weeks, and patients should take six weeks to gradually resume full activity.
RESULTS
The duration of the recovery process depends largely on the condition of the patient, it usually lasts from a couple of weeks to a couple of months. The results also vary from one person to another and are more successful in those patients whose expectations are reasonable.

COMPLICATIONS
Infections
To prevent infections one must do a prophylactic treatment of 14 days with antibiotics.
Capsular contracture
It is fibrous scar tissue surrounding the implant. It is difficult to determine whether or not it will form in a patient or how thick it will be.
Seroma
Seromas are very common amongst patients of breast implants. Sometimes it will be necessary to leave a drainage tube to prevent inflammation. Consequently, complications may happen due to the plastic tubes being in contact with the textured surface of the implant. Recently there have been cases of breast cancer in patients who have prolonged seromas, especially with texturized surface implants. It is recommended to have a mammogram prior to surgery as well as wearing a support bra after surgery.
